Maintaining bamboo

Bamboo: Natural, Strong and Sustainable

Bamboo is a strong and durable material that’s becoming increasingly popular for outdoor furniture. This fast-growing grass has a warm, natural look that fits beautifully in any outdoor space. Naturally resistant to moisture, mould and insects, bamboo lasts a long time with minimal maintenance.

It’s also an eco-friendly alternative to traditional wood, as it grows quickly and has a low carbon footprint. Despite its strength, bamboo is lightweight and flexible – making it suitable for a wide variety of designs.

Over time, bamboo will develop a silvery-grey patina similar to teak. This doesn’t affect its quality, but adds to its natural charm.

When Should You Treat Your Bamboo Garden Furniture?

You’ll know it’s time to treat your bamboo when water no longer beads on the surface but starts to soak in slowly. If the bamboo has started to fade, you can apply Robust Teak Protector to restore its rich brown colour.

Teak Shield can be applied as often as needed – no worries there!

How to Care for Your Bamboo Garden Furniture

Regular maintenance extends the lifespan of your bamboo garden furniture and helps preserve its natural look. Our bamboo furniture comes with a protective finish against water and UV rays, but we recommend treating it with Teak Shield upon delivery for extra protection.

If the surface becomes dirty or dull, a thorough cleaning is needed. With the right care, your furniture will stay beautiful for many years to come.

Time needed: Approximately 30 minutes (excluding drying time)
What you’ll need:

Step 1: Clean Your Bamboo Garden Furniture

Clean your bamboo garden furniture regularly using warm water, a soft brush and our Teak Cleaner. Avoid abrasive cleaning products to prevent damaging the protective finish. Allow the furniture to dry completely before continuing with treatment.

Step 2: Treat with Robuust Teak Protector

Once the furniture is dry, apply a thin layer of Robuust Teak Protector. Let it soak in for about 30 minutes. One layer is enough to maintain bamboo’s natural colour.

Step 3: Protect with Teak Shield

For extra protection against moisture and dirt, apply Teak Shield immediately after purchase and repeat every six months. This invisible shield helps prevent stains from penetrating the material.

Shake the Teak Shield well before use, and make sure the furniture is completely dry and dust-free. Apply it using a lint-free cloth and let it dry for 48 hours before exposing the furniture to the elements.

Important: Always ensure your furniture is completely dry before covering it with a protective cover to avoid mould growth.
