The Latest Outdoor Furniture Trends

Many are already feeling the pull of spring. We're all ready for sunshine and spending time outdoors! Now's the perfect time to dive into the garden furniture trends of 2024. What colours will we see this year? What's the latest trend in garden furniture? The key development is our desire to spend more time outside and for longer periods. It's a wonderful trend that we completely understand and one we're eager to embrace: our garden furniture doesn't have to be covered up in autumn anymore but can be used during those months as well. In other words, you can enjoy your furniture throughout the year. Let us walk you through it!

Trend 1: Friendly Shapes and Comfort

A noticeable trend in garden furniture for 2024 is the appearance of friendly shapes. Tabletops are transforming, with not just the corners being rounded, but also the long and short sides of the table getting a soft curve. This change helps people sitting around the table engage more with each other, rather than just focusing on the person directly opposite them. Oval and semi-oval shapes, as seen in the Tondo, Bali, and Cross tables, are at the forefront of this trend. Mostly seen in dining settings, these shapes are also making their way to coffee tables.

Round shapes aren't limited to tables; they're a big part of lounge furniture too. Lounge sofas with curved backrests and round tubes in the frame, like in the Lima and Bodi lounges, are examples. Even subtle additions, like rounded edges in the Laguna lounge, add to the overall friendly feel.

Additionally, the trend of vertical repetition is gaining popularity, extending beyond interior designs to furniture. Narrow bars and optical variations, as in the Ronda coffee table, give a contemporary look. Rope can also be used to create this vertical pattern, mainly focusing on the repetition of slender elements. In short, garden furniture in 2024 embraces friendly shapes, comfort, and innovative aesthetics.

Comfort at the Table

Apart from new table arrangements, people are also looking for more comfort at the table. This means choosing chairs with additional comfort features like higher backrests and adjustability. To meet this need, new table sizes have been introduced this year, including the 230x100 Concept table and the 240x100 Mixx table.

Trend 2: RuCore: The New Rope

In recent years, we've seen a lot of garden furniture made from teak and aluminium. But a material combination that's becoming increasingly popular in our collection is aluminium with rope. This allows for variations in colours, thicknesses, and patterns. Rope gives the furniture a friendlier look compared to the sleek, cool look of aluminium alone.

This year, we've introduced a new rope material called RuCore. This material acts like rope and is used in braided furniture. It has a rubber core, which means only the outer part gets wet, allowing it to dry faster. This is especially useful in the Netherlands, where it often rains. The foam in the core provides a soft texture, perfect for arm and/or backrests.

Another advantage of RuCore is its versatility. It can be used for wickerwork, placemats, and even as a rug. It absorbs very little moisture and is quite durable, making it suitable for various applications..

Trend 3: The Multifunctional Garden and Outdoor Kitchen

Another emerging trend is people wanting to combine lounging and dining in their outdoor spaces. This might be because they don’t have enough room for both a dining set and a lounge set. Or it could be because they want the comfort of a lounge while eating – perfect for those who love to relax and chat after a meal! This can be achieved, for example, by pairing a lounge set with a high (coffee) table. This table is the right height for eating, but the lounge cushions also offer a chance to sit back and relax comfortably.

Tables for dining don’t always need to be standard height anymore. A bar table isn’t just for standing by – now we offer options that are as comfortable as a standard dining setup, but at bar table height!

Earlier, we mentioned that people want to spend more time outdoors. That’s why we’re moving more activities outside, including cooking. In the past, it was mainly the barbecue that cooked our food. But now, we see full kitchens being set up in gardens, complete with gas burners, sinks, and chopping areas. With an outdoor kitchen, the cook can stay involved with the group, which is much more fun!

Trend 4: Transparency and Vertical Repetition

In recent years, we've seen a lot of fully upholstered garden furniture, which makes the pieces look quite large. The trend for 2024 is different: we see more airy, transparent furniture. This creates a more refined look. The wickerwork used in these garden pieces adds a touch of luxury with beautiful details. And the great thing is: there are endless possibilities with wickerwork! The wickerwork makes the furniture partly transparent. This means you can see your garden through your furniture, helping it blend in and become one with your outdoor space.

Alongside transparent furniture, another trend is vertical repetition. This has been around for a while, seen in things like wall panels. Now, it’s also appearing in items like coffee tables. An example from our collection is the Ronda coffee table.

Trend 5: Light Cream and Earthy Tones

What colours will we see in our outdoor spaces in 2024? Every year, this is a big question. In 2024, the Scandinavian style is making a comeback: light, fresh tones, but with a warm feel. These colours give your outdoor space a modern yet warm look. The creamy Scandinavian colours are being used in various products, like tabletops and cushions. Because of this new trend, we've added Oyster ceramics and Dune Soltex cushions to our range.

We also see earthy colours doing well in 2024. The trend here is still a bit cautious though. Think of rust and coral reds and dark green shades. These colours blend beautifully in a garden. In other words: add some colour to your garden!
