Fleur and Nathalie's cosy city garden

In our series Outdoor Living Stories, we discover how customers have created the most beautiful gardens and outdoor spaces. This time, we take a look at the cosy city garden of Fleur and Nathalie.

They describe the atmosphere of their outdoor space as “modern Mediterranean”. It’s all in the details: gravel and cobblestones as paving, olive trees and other southern plants, combined with modern beige garden furniture. The result? An outdoor space that feels like a sunny holiday destination – right in the heart of the city.

Natural tones bring calm and balance

Where beige and earthy shades were once mainly popular indoors, we now see these calming colours appearing more often in gardens, patios and city courtyards. Think of light ceramic tabletops, sand-coloured cushions and aluminium frames in soft tones. Not only do these colours radiate warmth and tranquillity, but they also combine effortlessly with greenery and stone. Fleur and Nathalie’s garden in Breda is the perfect example: a compact city garden which, thanks to smart choices in materials and layout, radiates Mediterranean serenity.

A garden for living

“We mainly wanted a place where we would truly enjoy spending time,” say Fleur and Nathalie. “Our garden isn’t big, but by choosing two seating areas, it feels as though we have more outdoor space. The dining table is in the shady spot, where we love to enjoy long dinners. And the lounge area? That’s right in the sun – perfect for a coffee break while working from home.”

Smart combinations: low-maintenance and stylish

What immediately stands out in their garden are the soft colours. Their choice for beige furniture was very deliberate. “Beige is calming and has a natural feel. We have a light-coloured façade and a garden with lots of stone, so it just matches beautifully. We also wanted it to connect with our interior, where we use a lot of light tones too.”

Not only colour, but also materials were carefully chosen: aluminium frames, a ceramic tabletop and low-maintenance cushions.

“The ceramic tabletop is especially ideal. It’s durable, easy to clean and can take a knock. We wanted furniture that would stay beautiful without having to fuss over it every day.”

The power of a thoughtful garden design

Starting with a new-build home, Fleur and Nathalie designed their garden with purpose. “The position of the sun determined where we placed our terraces. We really wanted two functional seating areas, each with its own atmosphere. That’s why we also chose a round table: cosy and practical.” Even the lounge chairs were carefully considered.

“Sun loungers simply don’t fit in our garden, but we still wanted that relaxed feeling. The adjustable Laguna lounge chairs are perfect: upright for reading, reclined for daydreaming in the sun.”
